New Project Time

Time for a new project

Since I will not be allowed more than one Computer in the house (the remainder will have to reside in the “computer room” in the garage), I’ve decided to get myself a XBox for playing DVDs/AVI files and just network it back to a decent size server in the “computer room”.

So now the fun of deciding if I want to attempt installing my own modchip, or paying someone to install it for me.

New Project

Ok so I’ve decided to setup an ipv6 traceroute web page so I’m now trying to track down some good web based tracerouting scripts.

I’m wanting to setup something that will do both ipv4 and ipv6.

So now back to the searching

It’s all working again

Thursday, July 22nd, 2004

Ok, so I have my HE tunnel working again, and my BGP feed from WIX is still working, and my AARNET tunnel is still working too.

Now I’m just waiting to see what is going to break next :)

I stuffed up

Ok, so its not a good idea to click on Remove Tunnel on the tunnel details page.

Theres no confirmation and no documentation as to what it actually will do. (it completely obliterates the configuration of your tunnel from tunnelbroker, without any confirmation ;)

so I’m now waiting for my IPv6 range to be reassigned (hopefully I’ll get the same range, if not I’ll have to get back in contact with Citylink), and in the mean time I’ve setup an AARNET tunnel (they give you a /48 but have no BGP facilities and have the added latency of having to get into AU for all your traffic)

Pity you cant get TunnelBroker to terminate your AARNET assigned range :)

Cursed IPv6

Ok so I now have a BGP feed for routes from WIX, but is getting this working, I’ve also managed to stuff something else up.

I now cant route traffic throught the router and out via my TunnelBroker tunnel.

The weird thing is, I can route things through and out the WIX tunnel, and also out the 6to4 tunnel (to wlug) and can also get traffic to and from the router itself to hosts via the TunnelBroker tunnel.

Back to the debugging

It Works

Thursday, July 1st, 2004

Ok so I now have a bgp feed from wix, which gives me a whopping great 10 IPv6 prefixes, its not much but I’m sure it will grow over time ;)

The issue lay in setting the TTL on the tunnel interface, I had it set initially to 5, then tried 64, and then after reading the configuration examples on Hurricane Electrics tunnel details (where they recommend setting it to 255) I increased it up to 255 and voila it all works now.

I’ve also made this change on my HE tunnel and hopefully will be able to get a bgp feed from there too.

So now it all works and I have to go and Wiki my findings :)

IPv6 and BGP

Thursday, July 1st, 2004

So my next task is to get my IPv6 bgp feed from WIX working properly.

I have the IPv6 tunnel all up and working and can ping the other end, but the BGP session in quagga doesn’t want to work.

Time for some ethereal sniffing me thinks
